Yep, I have a cardiologist. That's not a comforting thought, is it? No, it's not.
However...he won my heart today, for sure.
For one thing, he was not haughty, supercilious, and judgmental...the way most doctors seem to be...and the way that the nurse practitioner I saw last time was. He didn't even seem to be in a rush to get rid of me, and answered every question I had in my worried mind. I actually felt better after talking to him...something which rarely happens to me in such situations.
Then, as we were leaving, he saw that I was carrying a book...History of Civilization in England Volume II, as a matter of fact...and he asked me about it, then asked who wrote it, then said something like, "I'll take a look for it." Which is something I say to people, just to be nice, on a regular basis--even when (which is most of the time) I have no intention of taking a look for whatever it was. Still, it was more personal interaction than I've had with a doctor in...well, hell, maybe EVer...so it made my heart sing. Then as I was scheduling my next appointment, he came back into the room and pointed his phone towards me, which was showing a picture of Henry Thomas Buckle as the cover (well, "cover," since e-books don't really have covers, do they?) of History of Civilization in England, and he said, "I found it!"
Oh, be still my beating heart!
So big tip of the hat to Dr. Jesse E Adams III. If you need a cardiologist who will listen to what you have to say about your health...and about your favorite 19th century historian...then Dr. Adams is your man.
