500

Hit page 500 of Frederick Copleston's
A History of Philosophy
 today.

Only 4,844 pages to go!

Also, was inspired to send this email:

Hey, Pat, this morning's A History of Philosophy reading brought me this line:

" . . . the transcendent character of God is an integral doctrine of Christianity . . . . "

Which isn't profound or anything, but you know how sometimes things just snap into place? I read that and thought, That's why it's important to dress up to go to church. It's not just a gesture of respect, it's an acknowledgement of our lesser standing in the universe. And that's why a lot of people--especially younger people--dress in such a casual (and sometimes even slovenly) fashion: they do not acknowledge that they are of lesser standing than anyone--not even God. It's the ultimate extension of democracy, the idea that "I am just as good as God." Which might be the most serious of sins, the sin against The Spirit.

Or maybe I'm just an old fart.
