Pentecost, Lovecraft Style

Jacqueline and I have been reading The DK Illustrated Family Bible (by Claude-Bernard Costecalde) for about three months now, and we're heading into the home stretch. Today we were reading about the Pentecost experience, and one of the illustrations caught my eye:


Is it just me, or does that look a lot like Cthulhu attacking The Twelve?

I went looking for "Verdun altar, Pentecost" online and found a better version of the illustration:


Sure looks like Cthulhu to me.

And even if not...it's a pretty disturbing illustration, isn't it? Ah, Catholicism. You never cease to fascinate me, my friend.
