Even though I have all of the single issues comic books from #12 to the end of the series (and am willing to sell them if you're into that kind of thing, nudge nudge wink wink), I decided to get the three deluxe books from the library.
I really didn't need the first one at all, since I'd already read those stories in paperback format, I wanted to see if there was extra material. And there was...but just a little bit, so that's not really the draw.
The draw is that they're a bit bigger than the original size, the paper is a bit nicer, and, well, you know...it's a HARDcover. It's more substantial. It looks nicer on your bookshelf.
It's also cheaper.
When Sweet Tooth first came out, comics were a mere $2.99 an issue--although the extra-big final issue of Sweet Tooth was $4.99. So that's a grand total of $121.60 for the series when it was published. (If you wanted to buy them now, the first issue would set you back $600...and most of the others would hit around $40 a pop. Of course, I would charge a lot less for my books. Just sayin', sir.) I know some folks are into collecting the original comics and all of that, and that's fine...did I mention that I'm willing to sell my copies of #12 to #40?...but to me, it makes a lot more sense to buy nice, hardbound Deluxe editions. And guess what?
If you buy the Deluxe Volumes on Amazon, it will only set you back $65.73.
And now you can now get a Compendium of the entire series in one volume for $35.99, which is significantly better so far as price goes, but (1) it's a huge book, 920 pages, 3.34 pounds...and that's not a real comfortable lie-down to read kind of thing, and (2) it's a paperback. Personally, I love compendiums...but I've also got a dozen of them that I've bought and never read, so....
ANYway...all I meant to say was that the Deluxe Sweet Tooth books are really nice, well-made, and relatively inexpensive.
