Meet the Press

I get pretty sick of CNN pretty quickly. They just do so many things that I find questionable or just plain wrong-headed that they have become one of my least favorite news sources . . . though I still tune in for certain anchors, such as Chris Cuomo, Dana Bash,  and Ana Cabrera. There are also certain ones who cause me to reach for the remote and flip the channel as quickly as possible, such as Brooke Baldwin, Anderson Cooper, and Wolf Blitzer.

And to a lesser extent, that's true of MSNBC as well. There's less bullshit there than on CNN, but still . . . quite a lot of bullshit. Though I do tend to like MTP Daily. Especially when Chuck Todd is hosting. And I have grown quite fond of Rachel Maddow, which kind of surprised me, as I was quite averse to her for a long time. I also like Brian Williams and Lawrence O'Donnell . . . and Stephanie Ruhle.

And there are a couple of FOX anchors that I quite like: the awesome Neil Cavuto and the reliable Shepard Smith chief among them.

But invariably I get sick of all of those channels at some point and have to shut down the news machine for the day.

But you know what I never seem to get sick of? Meet the Press. NBC debuted this show on November 6, 1947 . . . close to 71 years ago . . . and maybe the reason why calamity hasn't resulted of so long life is because the show has acquired a certain noble stature. I don't think I've ever seen people act rudely to each other on this show, for instance. It seems to be a very civilized approach to discussing the issues of the week. I like that.

Hell, in these days, I need that.

By the way, today on Meet the Press I met a fellow named Joshua Johnson who said something I really liked:

"The fault is not in our tv stars, but in ourselves."

That's some good, smart, use of allusion, ennit it? I'm going to check this fellow out.
