U.S. Senators from the Least Populated States

I was talking to a friend of mine who told me that the least populated ten...or possibly twenty...states were all represented by Republicans in the Senate, and how crazy and unfair it was that such a small slice of the population got to have such a large say in the Senate. I believed him...because I tend to be credulous and even gullible...and because I tend to side with the Democrats (except when they're being mealy mouthed losers)...but since I couldn't remember if he said the least populated ten or the least populated twenty, I took to the internet to see what was what. I extended my list to the bottom 50% population-wise...mostly so I could include my old Kentucky home in the results. Here's what I found:

26 Kentucky 4,339,367                         Mitch McConnell (R) and Rand Paul (R)
27 Oregon 3,831,074                          Ron Wyden (D) and Jeff Merkley (D)
28 Oklahoma 3,751,351                        Jim Inhofe (R) and James Lankford (R)
29 Connecticut 3,574,097                     Richard Blumenthal (D) and Chris Murphy (D)
30 Iowa  3,046,355                                Chuck Grassley (R) and Joni Ernst (R)

43 Rhode Island 1,052,567                   Jack Reed (D) and Sheldon Whitehouse (D)
44 Montana 989,415                              Jon Tester (D) and Steve Daines (R)
45 Delaware 897,934                              Tom Carper (D) and Chris Coons (D)
46 South Dakota 814,180                      John Thune (R) and Mike rounds (R)
47 Alaska 710,231                              Lisa Murkowski (R) and Dan Sullivan (R)
48 North Dakota 672,591                      John Hoeven (R) and Heidi Heitkamp (D)

50 Wyoming  563,626                            Mike Enzi (R) and John Barrasso (R)

Total:
29 Republicans
19 Democrats
2 Independents, both of who are pretty much Democrats, so 21 there.

Bottom Ten:
9 Republicans
9 Democrats
2 Independents ("Independents")

So there you have it.
