Asteroids

As I've mentioned previously, one of my pet peeves vis-à-vis Science Fiction movies is the damned near ubiquitous scene wherein a spaceship plunges into an (or sometimes even The) asteroid belt and commences to ducking and weaving as rocks come hurtling at the ship, maybe even taking a minor hit every once in awhile. Because there is A Lot of space between asteroids. So much so that it would be virtually impossible to run into one unless you were aiming for it, and there would certainly be no necessity for ducking and weaving.

I'm currently reading Isaac Asimov's The Tragedy of the Moon, and here's what he has to say on the subject:
