I'm still reading The Resurrection of Mary Magdalene, so of course (given my weird relationship with the universe) I'm now running into her everywhere. Today's sighting came from the back of a book in Half-Price Books.

This is King Jesus, by the inimitable Robert Graves. You'd think a writer of his stature would know better than to not only cast Mary Magdalene as a prostitute (she's never referred to as such in the Bible), not only as the Queen of Prostitutes (what does that even mean?)...but as the enemy of Jesus. Yowza. I call that misanthropy run amok.
Even before I started reading TRoMM I knew that the Mary Magdalene as prostitute thing was bullshit.
