This Week's Comics October 11, 2017 Edition
Action Comics #989 It's interesting again. Even though it seems a bit early to run this "He's not who he seems to be" schtick again (so soon after the Mxyzptlk story which just concluded a dozen or so issues ((which means a mere six months)) ago). But this Jonah Hex-faced Jor-El is pretty interesting. Plus the whole "Here Comes a Big Tie-In With Detective Comics" thing has got my nerd pulse jumping.
The Damned: Ill-Gotten #1 Well, it was only $1, and it had 26 pages, and it's been awhile since I bought an Oni Comics title. Plus I have gotten more interested in this Cullen Bunn fellow since The Unsound started impressing the hell out of me. I might not have picked it up if I'd realized it was a sequel series, but that would have been a mistake, so I'm glad that I didn't know. It's a good story (though the whole demon thing has worn pretty thin on me . . . but at least this one has a noir twist) and very good art. I might even go back and have a look at the first series. And maybe even keep up with this one on the Day Old Bread schedule.
DetectiveComics #966 I've said it elsewhere, but I'll repeat it here: Hot Pants . . . Smokin'. This has become my Read Me First book lately. And two weeks has become too long to wait. Really kicking some big ass now.
Gotham City Garage #1 Wasn't going to pick this one up, but that image of the bare-midriffed Wonder Woman (statue) was pecking at my libido, so I took a little look. And I was really impressed. This is not the mild, girls just want to have fun book that I thought it would be. In fact, the writing is pretty tough. There's a scene at the end, for instance, where it looks like Batman breaks James Gordon's neck. I'm pretty sure it was just a feint and that he was actually snapping the handcuffs that had been placed on Gordon, but still, to even suggest such a thing is not your father's kiddie torture porn. And the art has a kind of dirty look to it that I quite like. Not even close to enough bare midriffed Wonder Woman, though.
FOOM #1 It was free. And you know, nostalgia. Though it really wasn't all that good. Did I mention that it was free?
Justice League: Injustice Gang and the Deadly Nightshade by Derek Fridolfs and Tim Levins A book. Picked it up because I thought Joe would enjoy reading it to me. Mmm-hmm.
