Funny Bible Passage

Jacqueline and I have been working our way through The Orthodox Study Bible for some time now...more than a couple of years. Last night we were reading a bit from the Song of Songs:

That is some pretty sexy stuff for The Bible, ennit?

But that's not the funny part. The funny part is at the bottom of the page, in the footnote to verse 13:

"This passage was fulfilled by Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea (Jn 19: 39-41) when the Lord was anointed again after his death, covered with myrrh and bundled in linen. He will take rest in the Church."

Ummm...what? The passage in SoS is obviously a bit of light erotica about a man lying down on his naked lover. (Or possibly something more intense than that...or is it just me and my dirty mind that is getting that Pearl Necklace vibe?) But the guys (and yes, we CAN assume that they are guys) writing the commentary make this about Jesus' burial. It's just ridiculous.

And it's unrelenting throughout this "Study Bible." Which is frustrating intellectually and obnoxious spiritually...but pretty fucking funny. So I thought I'd share.
