I have thoroughly enjoyed Fr. Frederick Copleston's A History of Philosophy. But it's not what you would call a Laugh Fest . . . a Ha Ha House . . . a Chuckle Factory . . . a Giggle Gala.
You get the idea.
Until today.
On Page 17 of Volume III . . . aka Page 1,169 . . . Quoth the Copleston,
"Mention of the Renaissance of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries probably still conjures up for some minds the idea of a sudden and abrupt transition and awakening, when . . . [and there follows a list of Big Discoveries, ending with:] . . . when the discovery of gunpowder conferred an inestimable blessing upon mankind."
Okay, it ain't Robin Williams, but still, it's at least a little but funny. And quite unexpected. Like a whiff of 🌹 in a fart factory.
Um . . . Okay. That's about it, then.
