Kamandi Watch! Also, More Evidence That Amazon Sucks.

You know, I'm starting to suspect that DC doesn't give a shit about my Kamandi obsession. I mean, admittedly I don't keep up with All Things DC as well as I once did, but I do read Previews every month, both the Marvel and DC inserts, and the occasional online article from Bleeding Cool. But it was still complete accident that I found out Kamandi had a part to play in the recently completed Checkmate (2021) mini-series, as I almost didn't pick that book up because of my dislike of writer Brian Michael Bendis. (I really wish he'd go back to Marvel and stop fucking up some of my favorite DC characters.) And the same goes for the animated movie Justice Society: World War II. In fact, not only was there no advance notice so far as I can discern, there wasn't even any acknowledgment of Kamandi's presence in the movie in the credits! But when I watched the brief scene in which a captive boy gives a package containing Superman's costume to his rescuer, I immediately thought, "That's Kamandi!" But when I checked the credits at the end of the movie...Kamandi was not listed.

So I went to IMDb, which Knows All about movies. And...? Nothing. There was no doubt in my mind, however, so I continued to poke around the internet, and before long I found an ad for the Blu-Ray version of the movie which included a Most Interesting & Surprising Tag Line at the bottom of the package:

Um...what?

Oh my. Well, my first thought was, "That confirms my idea that the unnamed boy in the feature film was, indeed, Kamandi." And my second thought, of course, was, "I want me some of that." So despite my antipathy for Amazon *, I went to that website and searched for Justice Society: World War II. And found this:

As you can see, none of the items pictured included the tag line about the Kamandi short. And I sure as hell wasn't going to pay $41.99 for their Blu-Ray. So I clicked on the DVD to see what was going on there. And this is what came up:

Yep. Now to be fair, this has since been corrected. But needless to say I'd had more than enough Amazon shit for the nonce, so I dialed it over to Walmart. Typed in Justice Society: World War II and got this:

Needless to say I bought the first item you see. And I just checked the corrected Amazon listing, and you know what? Walmart is still cheaper than Amazon for this item. Which is, as the title forewarned, More Evidence That Amazon Sucks.

As for the Kamandi short, it was pretty okay. The animation wasn't great, but the story was okay, and was a good lead in for the scene in the main feature. Though there was no indication of that connection, so I'm sure that there were many viewers...even some who have a love for Kamandi in their hearts...who wondered, Why the hell did they put a Kamandi short film on a Justice Society movie?

So there it is. Kamandi Watch out.

* For reasons which I have previously detailed...TEDIously detailed ...I no longer buy anything from Amazon unless someone gives me a gift card. I don't even subscribe to Amazon Prime anymore.
