Batman: The Detective, ComiXology (AKA Amazon--which sucks), & hoopla

I often use ComiXology to check references for blog entries. It helps me to locate specific issues of comic books, check out the covers (and the first few pages), see who the creative teams were, and find both print and digital release dates. And I have loved ComiXology from the get-go, have bought hundreds (possibly thousands) of comics from them, and have been a ComiXology Unlimited subscriber several times.) But they were subsumed by Amazon, and when I broke it off with the Big A, I pulled out of ComiXology, too.

But I've still been using them as a reference tool.

Today when I typed "ComiXology" into the search box, though, it didn't go to the ComiXology website. It went to Amazon. Which isn't really a change, but was still disconcerting.

I was looking for information on the DC series Batman: The Detective.  Here's what I found:

When the series came out it was $3.99 per issue, so $21.37 for the six issue run is a little bit of a savings ($2.57)...better than nothing, I suppose. But you know what an even better price is?

Mmm-hmm. Nothing. And you get 21 days to caress its little head. And what's even more amazing is that the release date for the collection was February 15, 2022. And I saw it on  hoopla  yesterday... and it might have been up even before that.

I think I'm going to go read it now.

To summarize:  hoopa is awesome, I still love ComiXology, Amazon sucks, and Tom Taylor and Andy Kubert are really awesome.
