I've read the Bible cover to cover twice, and have attended quite a few church services, earned 15 credits in Theology at Bellarmine College, and read more than a couple of theology books as well...but I had never heard of the book The Wisdom of Sirach until I started reading The Orthodox Study Bible published by Thomas Nelson. It has been a most interesting reading experience, and in many ways contradicts the teachings found in other, better-known parts of The Bible.
I read a page of this Bible every day to Jacqueline...and since we're now on page 932, it looks like we're (1) coming up on three years of reading and (2) just about at the halfway point.
Here's a verse we read today which I had to stop and take down:
The Wisdom of Sirach, 13:19
Wild asses in the wilderness are the prey of lions; likewise the poor are feeding grounds for the rich.
So whoomp, there it is. Nothing new under the 🌞 indeed.
