Bill Sienkiewicz, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and Why Isn't Bill Given Any Credit For His Work?

Okay. Thanks to npr, I'm not nearly as upset as I was a minute ago. (But we've still got to talk about that show in which you dissed The Mikado and The Nutcracker, man.)

I just saw Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. And it was okay. Even entertaining at times. There was the usual basic The Plot Rests Upon a Really Stupid Premise going on, but there aren't too many movies that avoid that one, so what the heck. It also had some nice touches of humor, and it was visually interesting. So there's that.

But speaking of visually interesting...I couldn't help but notice that there was an awful lot of Bill Sienkiewicz imagery going on. The depiction of The Kingpin, of course, but also quite a few images along the way. I'd say at least a good two or three minutes cumulatively. But you know...I sat through all of those credits, and never once did I can sight of Bill Sienkiewicz's name. So I was getting a bit miffed.

When I got home I Googled just to see if there was anything else on this out there, and I found this on npr's site:

"The crackling imagery occasionally recalls the multimedia collages that artist Bill Sienkiewicz used to blow Marvel fans' four-color minds back in the '80s. (Specifically, Spider-Verse's character design for the Marvel crimelord The Kingpin is clearly borrowed from the Sienkiewicz-painted graphic novel Daredevil: Love and War.)"

So it's not just me. And btw, Daredevil: Love and War is one of the best graphic novels EVer. And you can get it on Comixology for a mere $4.99. Right here: https://www.comixology.com/Daredevil-Love-and-War-1986/digital-comic/238811?ref=c2VyaWVzL3ZpZXcvZGVza3RvcC9ncmlkTGlzdC9HcmFwaGljTm92ZWxz
