Just saw Netflix's Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle. I didn't think it was very good. For one thing, the computer animation looked kind of shitty to me. (Did they really spend $100 million on this thing? Well, it does have a fair amount of star power going for it: Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and Benedict Cumberbatch; maybe they got $30 million each for their roles.) For another thing, it didn't seem all that different from the 2016 The Jungle Book...which I thought was just a bad version of the 1967 masterpiece. And for another another thing...somebody just really dropped the ball on the title of this thing.
See, this is primarily the story of how Shere Khan is pissed off at Mowgli, and how he wants to kill and eat him, right? Right. And in this version, Shere Khan is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, right? As in the guy who played the villain in Star Trek: Into Darkness, right? (A movie which was vastly under-appreciated, in my humble opinion.) And that villain's name? Come on, say it with me: Khan. A character who was previously played by Ricardo Montalban in the television episode of the original Star Trek entitled "Space Seed"...and in the most excellent movie Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.
So you're already sliding into home on this, aren't you?
How the hell did they not title this movie The Wrath of Shere Khan?
I mean, come on, motherfuckers.

I rate this movie a Bret Easton Ellis (Less Than Zero) on that count alone.
Sheesh.
