I suppose I should stop flogging this dead Amazon horse, but every time my contempt for them begins to wane, I find another reason to despise them.
This time around, I was comparison shopping for a book entitled Gather in the Hall of the Planets: Being a Novelized Version of the Remarkable Interplanetary Events That Took Place at the World Science Fiction Convention of 1974 by K. M. O'Donnell...who is really Barry Malzberg, if that means anything to you.
I checked my favorite sellers first: Thrift Books and Better World Books. Thrift didn't have any copies, but Better World had one for the very nice price of $3.98...and Free Shipping.
And of course that was good enough for me, but just out of curiosity I took a look to see what Amazon had to say about this. And?
$5.98. Not outrageous. And there's a "Free Delivery" message in there as well, so not the best price, but not a BAD price either, right?
But wait...what is this Seller Information? Better World Books: East. And just to give them the benefit of the doubt, what is the location of this Better World Books: East? Why, it's 55742 Currant Rd, Mishawaka, IN, of course.
So Amazon is charging you an extra $2 for the book that you are actually ordering from Better World Books. But as if that's not bad enough, I also remember an interview with the head of Better World Books in which he said that they make less money on books sold through Amazon, so not only is The Big A-hole stealing $2 from you, they're also stealing some of that $3.98 from Better World Books.
Nope.
P.S. And another reason to Make Yours Better World Books:
And you don't even have to do anything. You buy books & B๐B takes care of the donations.
