I usually open and at least glance at emails from NOISETRADE. Because they've given me (literally in many cases, as you can download many tracks for free) a lot of good music that I might not have ever heard of if not for NT. I don't know what draws me to listen to some of the bands and to pass over others. This Ben Miller Band, for example. Might have been the wash-tub bass. Might have been the mohawk. Might have been the ZZ Top beard. Might have been the hot girl. Oh, who am I kidding? It was definitely the hot girl. I really like hot girls. ANYway, I clicked on the LISTEN HERE button and saw there were two songs available, one of which was entitled "Akira Kurosawa." Of course you know what happened.
And it was such a great song. When it ended, I listened to it again. And then again. And then again. Then I finally listened to the other song, "One More Time." Which was quite good. But I then listened to "Akira Kurosawa" some more. And then I searched for the band's website to see if they were going to be playing anyplace close to me. And what d'ya know, they've got gigs in Lexington and Louisville in the near near. I am going to find a way to get to at least one of those shows. Wish I had a concert buddy. Anybody up for that? Holler at a brother.
Meanwhile . . . I've watched a whole lot of videos of the band, and I like them more and more. Was going to buy all of the albums on the internets--
1 Ton (2010)
2 Ton (2010)
Record for Joplin EP (2011)
Heavy Load (2012)
Any Way, Shape or Form (2014)
Choke Cherry Tree (2018)
but I'm pretty sure that I'm actually going to go see them, and I'd rather buy direct. Figure that probably works out to an extra dollar or two for the band, right? No middleman.
So more news as it happens. But here's a little something something if you've made the listen leap to "Akira Kurosawa" and enjoyed it:
S l o w intro version of "Akira Kurosawa" @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u7mVM89eIPY
There's also a live Album House Concert Rehearsal version which I like a lot, but you've probably already found that one, haven't you?
