Joe & I are pretty close to finishing the third of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Pellucidar novels (Tanar of Pellucuidar)--which is, by the way, our 41st ERB novel). Last night, I read this bit to him--
"Look!" cried Stellara, pointing ahead. "It is the sea."
"Yes," said Gura, "a gray sea; it does not look like water."
"And what is that?" cried Tanar. "There is a great fire upon the sea."
"And the sea does not curve upward in the distance," cried Stellara. "Everything is wrong in this country and I am afraid."
David had stopped in his tracks and was staring at the deep red glow ahead. The others gathered around him and watched it, too. "What is it?" demanded Ja.
Well, you don't have to hit me with a stick to get me to see a Teachable Moment. So I stopped and asked Joe, "What do you think it is?"
He replied (with some conviction), "It's God."
Kind of Platonic, but still, good answer.
Mmm-hmmm.
In other news, this morning in A History of Philosophy, I read this line:
"God is like a sun which illumines our minds or a master who teaches us."
A connecting principle / linked to the invisible.
Can I get an A-men?
