Myth-ed Again

I know that I shouldn't have. I mean, I haven't even finished the first book I bought--the 11th novel in the first series, Myth-ion Improbable. But (as I mentioned previously) I did already buy the omnibus of the first four books when I saw it for cheap . . . and I did order the collection of the first 8 comic books, and have been reading on that. And I have been enjoying all of it much more than I'd have imagined I would. So when I happened upon these two fellers

for a buck each, well what was I suPPOSEd to do . . . NOT buy them? Silly. Which means, of course, that I'm now officially at the point where I could easily buy the same book again unless I keep track of which ones I have. Speaking of which . . .

I'm about 2/3rds of the way through Myth-Ion Improbable (2001) as of this writing. This morning I read a bit wherein Our Heroes had arrived at a palace where there were men standing in cow pastures holding shovels. The narrator . . . Skeeve . . . first noted that these men looked the same as the guys he had previously seen in the towns, whose duty was to scoop shit up out of the street. There were several of these guys in each of the towns. More in bigger towns. But as Skeeve and his companions got nearer to the palace on the hill, there were pastures which were policed by just one guy. And the guy would just stand there with his shovel, waiting for the cow to shit. He made a comment about how this was the position to which the guys in the towns aspired.

I thought that was pretty funny, but also pretty fuckin' true, you know? So many of us spend our lives working to get to a point where we can stand around waiting for our cow to shit. That's the great thing about retirement. I ain't going to scoop up Maggie's cow's shit no more.

P.S. This morning on page 151 (of 198, so almost there) I read a sentence which simply must be shared:

"It seemed we had survived another full-moon night in the land of cow vampires."

They don't make them like that anymore, do they?

  • Addendum: So . . . less than five months later, and I've not only finished Myth-ion Improbable, but also the four book omnibus aforementioned. And started on Myth-ing Persons. And all of the comic books. Kind of starting  to sound like a fan or something.
  • Addendum: Now 11 months later, and I'm reading the 10th book, and, since I started with #11, that puts me pretty close to finishing the first 12 novel cycle. Which, of course, makes me WANT to finish the first 12  novel cycle before December 31st. Hmmmm.
  • Addendum: Finished the 10th / my 11th book today, December 21, 2018. I did bear down on it a little bit, but it wasn't exactly like lifting weights or running a mile, knowhati'msayin? Book 12, Something M.Y.T.H. Inc., is only 198 pages long--and that includes a 15 page glossary. So...183 pages in ten days? In the fuckin' bag, man.
