E-mail to CNN

I was ironing a couple of shirts this morning with CNN on in the background . . . hoping to get some idea of what the world looked like. And then they showed the Beyonce falling clip. You know, I don't care about Beyonce at all. In fact, I have to admit that she ceased being even slightly attractive to me when I realized that she was not only a complete idiot, but also had less class than your average alley cat. But . . . well, here's the e-mail I sent to them.

Dear CNN:

I understand that you "must" cover the entertainment industry in order to pay the bills. I'm disappointed that it is so prevalent--case in point, the current obsession with Lindsay Lohan, who seems to be mentioned every time I check in on CNN--but I just change the channel when that shit comes on and don't worry about it. I eventually come back and watch if there's some actual news to be seen. After this morning, though, I don't think I'll be coming back. I'd like to tell you why. I don't know who the hosts were, but there was a segment on this morning around six a.m. in which a clip of Beyonce was shown falling down some stairs. Is this news? I wouldn't even consider it entertainment news. It's just promulgation of public humiliation. That was low. But then you went lower. The clip was replayed. And replayed. And then you went lower. A clip of Al Roper falling down was played. And replayed. And then you went lower. A clip of some local newswoman falling was played . . . including the aftermath of the fall, when you could hear her moaning with pain for several long seconds. I don't know if you replayed that one, because by then I'd come to my senses and turned off the television. There is so much going on in the world right now, so many important stories which are not being told, and yet this is what you waste your time on. I really don't understand how your people can live with themselves. Have you no shame?

Well, we can all answer that question without multiple choices, eh? I realize that no one at CNN gives two e. coli cells about what I think, but I really had to get that out of my head. (Which explains the existence of this blog as well, doesn't it?) Sigh. Just to make things worse, i flipped over the MSNBC and guess what they were "discussing"? Fuck 'em all, man. I'm done.

i´m with you, honey. fuck ´em all.

btw, i especially enjoyed your line that CNN "doesn´t give two e.coli cells about what I think." ha!

even if CNN doesn´t care, it´s still important to say the things that are important to you. even if it doesn´t change the machine, at least you´ve put that sentiment, that energy out into the universe. if enough of it accumulates, i think change happens.

that´s what my momma taught me, anyway: you gotta do the thing you think is right, even if the only thing it changes is you.
