Pong. Asteroids. Centipede. Pac-Man. Ms. Pac-Man. Donkey Kong. Mario Brothers. Joust.
Yeah. I wasn't a devotee, but I did some time with Atari games back in the day. We had a Pong game at home, and we played it a lot. And I used to go to the video arcade to play those other games, usually with the girlfriend / wife to be #1. It was fun.
One time I was playing Asteroids and a little kid was hanging off the edge of the game, watching, and as an asteroid started baring down upon my unshielded spaceship he cried out, "Force Field!" just as I hit the button to save my ship from destruction. It was pretty darned cute.
And I remember having a sore thumb from playing too much on occasion.
I may have even bought an issue of the Atari Force comic book back in the day. But probably not more than one, and I'm not even sure about that. I'll let you know when I get to cataloging Box 2.
But when I saw an ad for Art of Atari I really wanted to have a look at that book. I checked the Vital Statistics on Amazon:
Print List Price: $39.99
Amazon Price: $20.37
Digital List Price: $19.99
Kindle Price: $9.36
Comixology Price: $9.99 *
But those Kindle and Comixology figures are sales prices, and sales don't last all that long.
I checked the LFPL and the U of L libraries; no dice. So . . . thinking about it. Beautiful art. Nostalgia.
Just thought you should know.
* Nope, I don't get that, either. Comixology is Amazon. What the fuck, man? And sometimes the price differential is impressively big, not just a few cents as it is here.
