I'd never heard of Osama Alomar. And it certainly wasn't the nondescript cover of the book--
--which caught my eye.
But that title . . . it was at least a LITtle bit fucked up. So I picked the book up from the shelf and had a look. Hmmph. VERy short stories, to say the least. Some a paragraph. Some a sentence. I sat down and started to read.
Some of the "stories" had really beautiful lines. Others were quite thought provoking. Some made me laugh out loud.
Like this one:
Don't Give Up the Fight
WHILE CAVORTING IN a field, the wild horse felt over-
joyed to see a water hose flailing in all directions, water
spraying from it fearsomely as a farmer tried in vain to grab
hold of it. The horse shouted as loud as he could, encourag-
ing the hose, "Don't give up the fight!"
The hose answered him enthusiastically, "Right on, my
friend!"

I mean . . . y'know?
ANYway. Almost every page made me stop and either write down a line, or want to. So even though I'm in the midst of several books at the moment, two of which are due soon with no renewals left to me, I'm going to finish off this book before I get back to them. And on Sunday I'm going to go into the St. Matthews Branch Library--which I haven't entered in like a year or more, since it's where I Don't Even Want to Look at Her Stupid Fucking Face Ex-Girlfriend works--because they have Osama Alomar's other translated into English book, and (1) I want to read it right away, without waiting for the LFPL to transfer it to my library & (2) IDEWtLaHSFFE-G never worked on Sundays when I knew her, so I'm hoping that I won't have to break that streak. But I really want to read more of this fellow's shit, so that's that.
