It started with DC Universe: Rebirth Special #1, which appeared on May 25, 2016. 80 pages for $2.99? You bet I was up for that, even though I wasn't even a little bit excited about yet another reboot. (After all, The New 52 had just happened a minute ago.) But when I got to The Great Escape, the issue was sold out. So I went home and bought it on Comixology, read it . . . and yes, I did actually gasp when I saw that last panel. Batman pulls a blood-stained happy face button out of the wall of the Batcave? Holy fuck, Robin! Where is that going to take us?
And subsequent printings of that issue (and there were quite a few of them, culminating in an $18 deluxe hardcover edition) which clarified the cover image and revealed that the Michelangelo God Hand beckoning to Our Heroes from the smear of light was Dr. Manhattan. More Holy, more fuck, more Robin!
And then . . . nada. So far as The Watchmen were concerned, anyway, which is the main thing I was in it for. And so far as I can tell--I only read a few of the DC Rebirth titles, but I do read the Previews descriptions of pretty much everything, just to keep abreast of the situation--that nada continued until the announcement of "The Button." Hence putting the Big Fucking into this deal.
Be there or B [ ], brahs and tahs.
BREAKING NEWS: In the course of background checking (you know, that thing we used to do before the Trumpty Dumpty Reich), I found some disappointing information: starting in April, All Star Batman, Batgirl, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, Batman Beyond, Batwoman, Blue Beetle, Cyborg, The Hellblazer, New Super-Man, Red Hood and the Outlaws, Super Sons, Supergirl, Superwoman, Teen Titans, Titans and Trinity will all go to $3.99 per issue. I take back half of my previous DC is super-de-deooper cool comment.
But only half, because (1) I don't buy (or read) any of those titles, but, more importantly, because (2) the biweekly comics--which include Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lanterns and Deathstroke — will remain at $2.99 per issue. Oh, and (3) the titles which are going to $3.99 are going to stay at $2.99 on Comixology.
Seems like a weird strategy to me, but hey, what do I know. I'm just glad that I can continue to read my DC books on the cheap.
