I have less than one hundred pages to go in The Footprints of God. It has become obvious to me that I am going to need to read quite a bit more of Greg Iles's work.
So . . . you know the drill:
1. Spandau Phoenix (1993)
2. Black Cross (1995)
3. Mortal Fear (1997)
4. The Quiet Game (1999)
5. 24 Hours (2000)
6. Dead Sleep (2001)
7. Sleep No More (2002)
8. The Footprints of God (2003) (second)
9. Blood Memory (2005)
10. Turning Angel (2005)
11. True Evil (2006)
12. Third Degree (2007)
13. The Devil's Punchbowl (2009)
14. Hard Listening--as one of The Rock Bottom Remainders (2013)
15. The Death Factory (2014) novella (first)
16. Natchez Burning (2014)
17. The Bone Tree (2015)
18. Mississippi Blood (2017)
Read 1
Have 6
So as you see, I'm well on my way.
And here's an interesting thing: I was in Books-A-Million this morning and I saw (1) a nice, new, remaindered hardback copy of The Bone Tree for $7, which is actually cheaper than the used copy I bought at Half-Price Books, and (2) there were 15 of Greg Iles's books on the new books shelves. And the last one on the above list hasn't even been published yet, so even more impressive. How many writers have most of the oeuvre so readily available?
And it looks like of the eleven books I don't yet have in hand, only
And as for The Footprints of God? It is a thriller, most definitely. In fact, it reminds me a little of Dan Brown . . . and I mean that in a good way. For all his faults, Mr. Brown does know how to make those pages turn. But Footprints is more than a thriller, too. It deals with some pretty heavy shit. Actually, it deals with the heaviest shit possible . . . the dwarf star of heavy shit: the nature of God.
