And you know, by doing this I happened upon several singers that I'm actually interested in hearing more from: the aforementioned The Slamming Doors, Catie Curtis, Micky & the Motorcars, and Whitty Whitesell. And here's the thing: I never would have heard any of these people if I hadn't gone looking for songs about St. Lucy. And I'd never have heard of St. Lucy if it hadn't been for Jacqueline. Which makes me wonder what other great stuff out there I'm missing because I haven't stumbled upon it. Which leads me to conclude that one lifetime is just not enough. There's a lot of nasty, awful, rancid shit out there, for sure; but there's also some lovely, beautiful, uplifting . . . what's the opposite of shit? . . . I'm thinking cotton candy. Yeah. There's also some lovely, beautiful, uplifting cotton candy out there. And one lifetime is plenty when it comes to shit, but not nearly enough when it comes to cotton candy.

By the way . . . I'm usually really good at identifying voices, but this one keeps scraping the bottom of my mind's boat and then disappearing into the depths: Micky Braun(of Micky & the Motorcars)'s voice  sounds REALly familiar to me, but I can't place who he reminds me of. Give me some help here. Listen to their version (there is another one on the You Tub) of "St. Lucy's Eyes" and see if the voice sounds familiar to you, too. Extra credit if you can tell me who it sounds like.

1 At the exact sentence that I read the word "voice," a lawyer in an obnoxious ad on television said "voice." Do do do do do do do do.

ADDENDUM: Oh . . . is it Steve Earle? I think it is. With just a slice of John Mellencamp, maybe. You think?

And by the way . . . "Tonight We Ride" is a pretty ass-kicking song, too. I'm thinking I might need the vinyl version of the album it's on --Hearts From Above
