I happened upon Book Bub. Signed up right away, and was impressed by the deal (very cheap e-books available for a limited time) as well as by the selections. Almost every email notification contained at least one book that I had to stop and think about. In fact, if not for the combination of limited means and limited time, I would have bought a half-dozen or so books by now.
But when a science fiction anthology (The Long List Anthology Volume 2: More Stories From the Hugo Award Nomination List) appeared for 99 cents, I was there. I've only put a little dent in the anthology (3 stories), but I've really enjoyed reading it. So much so that I'm thinking that I may have to go back for volume 1 at some point.
And today I saw a James Morrow book (The Continent of Lies) which might have to happen. The deals don't last long, though--The Long List has already gone up to $4.99 . . . which is still a great deal for 600 page's worth of stories, but I'd rather save $4, right? So it's best to get on the mailing list and check the daily messages as they come in.
ADDENDUM: Just read today's Book Bub offerings, and my trigger finger is itchy. There's Unspeakable by Chris Hedges and David Talbot, Moon Shot by Deke Slayton & Alan Shepard & Jay Barbree, In Search of Buddha’s Daughters by Christine Toomey, America the Ingenious by Kevin Baker, and Wish You Were Here: The Official Biography of Douglas Adams by Nick Webb, each one for a mere $1.99. Or, if you're willing to part with the big bucks, Double Star by Robert A. Heinlein for $2.99.
Be still my beating heart.
