BOGO. Pretty great deal, and I was all set to buy some Marvel books when I saw it. I've been interested in the new Hellcat comic (Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat!) 'cause (1) the covers looked cool and (2) I knew that both the writer and the artist are women, and you don't see much of that in comic book world, but (3) $3.99 an issue and (4) Marvel, so I hadn't taken the plunge. So a perfect opportunity, right?
Comixology had issues #1 through #5 for $1.99 each (hmm, I don't remember Marvel dropping their prices on old new issues last time I checked in; is this a new thing?), and issues #6 through #15 for $3.99 each (that's the tight-assed Marvel I know and don't love), but they also had Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! Vol. 1: Hooked On A Feline 1 and Patsy Walker, A.K.A. Hellcat! Vol. 2: Don't Stop Me-ow, each of which collects six issues, for $10.99 each. So just a smidge over $1.83 per issue, which is super-de-dooper coming from Godcorp 2--especially on the second collection, whose single issues would list at $23.94. But with the BOGO sale, you get 12 issues for $10.99, putting you at the unbelievable price of 92¢ per. Holy mazzoli. It's been quite awhile since you saw that kind of price on a comic book. (To be exact, it's been 30 years for Marvel.) So ha cha cha, I had those two collections in my cart and was looking for another deal. I decided that I should go ahead and try the new Man-Thing written by R. L. Stine, so I went looking for another $3.99 or more book for the BOGO sale. And I looked and looked and looked. I looked at every Marvel title on Comixology. I looked again. I looked at their best selling titles. I looked at their best reviewed titles. I looked at websites listing the Best Marvel Comic Books EVer. And I couldn't find a damned thing. So I took Man-Thing out of my box 3 and was all set to buy my Hellcat collections when I asked myself, "Self, do you remember the last time you bought a Comixology collection? It was that The Final Days of Superman thing, and it was pooty good, for sure, and a killer of a deal, for surer, but then a day or two later you were looking for some other Superman-ish thing on the Louisville Free Public Library website, and you saw that THEY had a copy of The Final Days of Superman? And FREE is always the bestest price, ennit?" And I said to my Self, "Self, there is no way in hell that the LFPL is going to have a copy of the Hellcat collections." But, chagrined, I took a look. And guess what? Volume 1 is "Pending," and Volume 2 is "Active" (because it's currently in someone else's hands). So there's another eleven bucks I owe to the LFPL.
So it's still a great sale . . . which ends 3/13, so ACT NOW!!! . . . or at least NOW!!!-ish . . . if you like Marvel comic books.
1 I have to admit that I find this story arc title quite amusing.
2 Does anyone remember laughter? No? How about Destroyer
Duck, then?
3 That's what SHE said! 4
4 I usually refrain from (and loathe) such childish jokes, but in this case, it simply had to be said.
